Methodology

The CMO Survey queried 4,336 top marketers from Fortune 1000, Forbes Top 200 and CMO Club companies, as well as members of the American Marketing Association and Duke University Alumni and Friends. Of the total, 612 (14.1%) responded. More than 80% of respondents hold a rank of vice president, CMO or higher.

Marketers’ investment in social media efforts is exploding and will continue to do so, according to “The CMO Survey February 2010 Highlight and Insights.” Sponsored by the American Marketing Association and the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University, the research, published biannually, predicts that social media spending will more than triple in the next five years. Across industries, organizations are expanding their presence in this emerging channel.
